When you ship us your LPs we want each one of them to arrive safely here at vinylhaven.

To do this, we recommend that you use a professional shipping service (
Mailboxes, Etc.
United Parcel
Service, or other comparable outlet) to help you pack them up. LPs are
extremely fragile and you want to ensure that they are packed securely and protected. This
is a time saver and by the time you purchase all the required materials you will need to
safely ship your precious recordings, you really aren't saving all that much money.

This is the method we at
vinylhaven recommend.

However,
if you really wish to pack and ship them yourself, here are a few facts and
guidelines
:

LPs measure a little less than 13" square.

There is no such thing as too much bubble wrap, especially if it concerns your precious
LPs, cassettes, 8 tracks and reel-to-reel tapes!

78s are extremely fragile. Take extra, extra care when preparing them for shipment. It's
always a good idea to place either cardboard, or a wad of paper towels between each
record if using the 'sandwich' method (see below).

Always insure your LPs, cassettes, and 8 tracks. It only costs a $1.30 per $100 dollars of
insurance. In many cases, your music may be irreplaceable, and hard to place monetary
value on. Insure your shipments to
vinylhaven: it is money well spent.

When packing, always use thick, sturdy cardboard. Currogated cardboard is best.

DO NOT USE single layer packaging (ie. 'record mailers'). I have only had one LP arrive
here cracked and it came in one of these flimsy record mailers. Thank goodness this client
DID take my advice about insuring her LPs!

A good method that is tried and true for packing vinyl is the '
sandwich' method. Place no
more than 5 LPs and wrap the entire stack in 2 layers of bubble wrap. Take two 13" by 13"
pieces of STURDY, preferably currogated, cardboard and
sandwich the bubble-wrapped
LPs, with one piece on top, the other on the bottom.

Now wrap heavy-duty packing tape around '
the LP sandwich' North to South, and then
again East to West several times to ensure that the LPs are snug. Repeat this procedure
until all the LPs you wish to ship to
vinylhaven for transfer/restoration are sandwiched.

Then place the protected LPs inside a box that is larger than 13" wide (we recommend 14"
by 14" by 2"--5" or larger). Again pad with lots more bubblewrap, or if you absolutely have
to: styrofoam packing peanuts (not eco friendly and the small particles are can attach
themselves to your LPs--NOT RECOMMENDED, unless you are very certain you have
completely sealed your LPs with bubblewrap.

Always use a
HEAVY DUTY MAGIC MARKER to indicate on the box that the contents are
FRAGILE
. Also write DO NOT DROP or HANDLE WITH CARE and indicate which side of the
package is
UP. I realize that all of this sounds pretty obvious but we cannot overstate the
importance of careful packing.

We want your records and tapes to arrive here safely!

Another thing: when shipping 8 tracks, cassettes, or reel-to-reel tapes ALWAYS, ALWAYS
first wrap them in bubblewrap (or in a plastic bag) if you plan on padding the box using
packing peanuts
. The styrofoam material can break apart and those little static-ky demons
can get inside and lodge themselves within the tape mechanism. Not good.

Always include
our order form, a complete list of each LP/Tape/Cassette/reel-to-reel (artist
and title) included and if necessary any additional instructions you wish us to follow when
transferring and restoring your music.

In order to both recycle materials (and save the environment) and keep costs down, I will
make best efforts to re-use the packing materials you provide to send us your
LPs/cassettes/8 tracks.

And don't forget--if you want us to scan and create a CD insert you
MUST INCLUDE the
album cover/artwork you wish to adorn the CD/DVD of your music.

Thank you so much for visiting our site and we sincerely hope you choose
vinylhaven for
all your audio transfer and restoration needs.
